Case Study

European Tour – Fastest Hole of Golf Part Two

This took place the week of the Turkish Airlines Open at the beautiful Regnum Carya Golf and Spa Resort. We were asked by European Tour Productions to capture the drone shots for the Guinness World Record attempt.

This was a fantastic challenge and experience. What made these shots particularly difficult was the fact that we were flying in the dark under flood lights up to 500 yards away from the pilot and had to merge two shots together seamlessly using a drone and a stabilised camera.

To capture this shot we needed to perform a number of rehearsals in daylight so we could highlight any unforeseen problems before the main shoot. The most challenging part of the shoot was keeping the drone approx. two feet off the ground and travelling at high speed as the surface undulates up and down along the golf hole. We also had to overcome strong radio interference which made the drone bank strongly to the right.

At the end section of the shot we needed to merge the drone shot with an A7S on a DJI Ronin so we could get as close as possible to the players. To achieve a seamless merge, we needed to match the shots perfectly at the cross-over point.

This was a fantastic project to be part of and well worth the rehearsals and effort to get the right shots needed.
